Package: transmission-remote-gtk Version: 1.4.1-5 Severity: wishlist This bug, split from https://bugs.debian.org/1009246, tracks reenabling appindicator support using libayatana-appindicator. There’s currently an open discussion with upstream about adding libayatana-appindicator support to their build system [1].
That said, I believe we can’t link against libayatana-appindicator due to license issues: transmission-remote-gtk is GPL-2-only because of some files like [2], while libayatana-appindicator is GPL-3-only because of some files like [3]. Upstream has indicated that they’d like to rid themselves of the GPL-2 restriction [4] but that it’s likely to be challenging [5].
