Package: grub-pc Version: 2.06-5 Severity: normal After the grub-pc upgrade, I got:
Setting up grub-pc (2.06-5) ... Installing for i386-pc platform. Installation finished. No error reported. Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: warning: File system `ext2' doesn't support embedding. grub-install: warning: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.. Installation finished. No error reported. Generating grub configuration file ... [...] According to https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/329954/74516 the grub-pc configuration did something like grub-install /dev/sda1 which is wrong. The cause may be the 2 devices in grub-pc/install_devices, but that's grub that set it up. I don't remember what led to that. /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.templates has Template: grub-pc/install_devices Type: multiselect Choices-C: ${RAW_CHOICES} Choices: ${CHOICES} Description: GRUB install devices: The grub-pc package is being upgraded. This menu allows you to select which devices you'd like grub-install to be automatically run for, if any. . Running grub-install automatically is recommended in most situations, to prevent the installed GRUB core image from getting out of sync with GRUB modules or grub.cfg. . If you're unsure which drive is designated as boot drive by your BIOS, it is often a good idea to install GRUB to all of them. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ . [...] So I suppose I have the recommended setting anyway. And this warning seems to be a common issue. -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/mapper/crypt--lvm-root / ext4 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 0 /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 rw,relatime 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ];
