/usr/share/pychess/pieces/ttf contains 18 fonts by Armando H. Marroquin which
can be found at several font websites.
However, the license is not clear. Most of them are offered for free personal
use.
The license grant is not very clear about distributing modified versions or
commercial use.
I consider them as non-free but variants of them seem to be part of the TeX chessfss package which is licensed under a
free license.
Upstream removed them (not for license reasons) in the current development
branch.
Please check if it is possible to import it as a new Debian version or ask for
a release.
Or just repack and patch.
