The debian/watch file wasn't precise enough and uscan grabbed
2.6.4.tar.gz but treated it as version 4.

I'll check this out tomorrow morning first thing, that seems very, very
odd, thanks for the report, I did run it to check that it works and
opened a book, but didn't immediately notice anything weird at that time.

After updating to the Foliate 4-1 package I was confused that the
pre-3.0 UI was back, as well as the frequent segfaults (see #1039050).
Looking at the source it seems like the package was actually reverted to
