i have the same problem here. i used us_intl as keyboard layout in X
first but switched back to us now for testing. the behavoir is still
there.
i used xmodmap -e "keycode 64 = Alt_L Meta_L" which did not help
here.
i tried to change keyboard layout in gnome but that didn't help
either.
i also tried to change this 'default shortcuts modifier key' to
something else which also didn't change the behavior.
i didn't have this with an older version of the setup gnome/sawfish,
this may be introduced by gnome 2.10... but metacity works fine
(regarding alt-tab :) but i don't like metacity. any ideas?
