I confirm the problem Frederic describes (using gnumeric 1.4.3):

When trying to print (via cups), the program hangs for minutes without activity. While writing, gnumeric has not yet done anything. Still waiting...

Anyhow: I'm not aware of haveing changed my CUPS configuration lately. It used to work fine for gnumeric and still works fine for other programs. I have no idea where to look for the problem.

So it seems that the problem is at least gnumeric-(or gnome?)-specific, even it the bug itself has to be found in CUPS. Would be nice if somebody with more expertise could give more details.
