Having pondered about this and looked at the code in mindi, I have come
to think that the key is:

......mount: unknown filesystem type 'vfat'

mindi creates floppy image files and mounts them as vfat. For that, vfat
has to be available in the kernel either as a module or compiled in.
What kernel are you using? Can you verify for me that it has vfat?

Well, that's certainly nice and appreciated but the Debian bug tracking
system is there record all traffic in regards to bugs. Why don't you get
yourself a second free email account (like Yahoo or something) and use
that for bug reports? (I'll not cc the bug for now because I respect
your desire for privacy but I would really appreciate this to change
again...)
