Same happens here, all /dev/dvd /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrw link to /dev/hdd I would expect at least some /dev/cdrom0 /dev/cdrom1 or something, but no. /dev/hdc is a CD ReWritter. /dev/hdd is a DVD Reader [/usr/src/linux]$ sudo cdrom_id /dev/hdc ID_CDROM=1 ID_CDROM_CD_R=1 ID_CDROM_CD_RW=1
