In 2011, one shouldn't convert to dpatch, quite the contrary: one should
convert away from it. Therefore, I do not feel the need to implement
this feature, unless a working patch is provided against my git tree[1].

Especially given the dpatch-edit-patch -b flag, dpatch-convert-diffgz
should not be limited to running with dpkg-buildpackage. Some obvious
alternatives would be:
a) process an existing .diff.gz (probably good even if b is done as well)
b) allow the build command to be customized
