I noticed that whatever the TeXmacs version, if I have gs-esp
installed, the pdf output contains only Type 3 fonts. gs-gpl and
gs-afpl print with the Type 1 fonts as they should. Maybe the
dependencies should be adjusted accoordingly?

TeXmacs uses Type 3 bitmapped fonts.
As discussed many times for TeX files, which had the same problems a
few time ago, the solution is to use Type 1 instead of Type 3
