Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.1-1 Severity: normal I've got very strange seach results when looking for installed packages with broken recommends.
bash$ aptitude search ~i~Brecommends |grep ruby i ruby1.8-dev - Header files for compiling extension modul But ruby1.8-dev has all it recommends installed. I guess the reason of confusion is sarge update line in sources list with different version og ruby in it: ruby1.8-dev=1.8.2-7sarge2 has uninstalled recommends, and ruby1.8-dev=1.8.4-1 is installed, so ruby1.8-dev is listed as a result of ~i~Brecommends search pattern. However, this is very unexpected result from the user point of view. Removing sarge updates from the sources.list removes ruby1.8-dev from the search result. bash$ apt-cache depends ruby1.8-dev ruby1.8-dev Depends: libruby1.8 Recommends: ruby1.8 bash$ apt-cache policy ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ruby1.8: Installed: 1.8.4-1 Candidate: 1.8.4-1 Version table: *** 1.8.4-1 0 999 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru etch/main Packages 50 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru sid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.8.2-7sarge2 0 999 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru sarge/updates/main Packages ruby1.8-dev: Installed: 1.8.4-1 Candidate: 1.8.4-1 Version table: *** 1.8.4-1 0 999 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru etch/main Packages 50 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru sid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.8.2-7sarge2 0 999 http://serv.sanechka.spb.ru sarge/updates/main Packages -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (999, 'testing'), (999, 'stable'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages aptitude depends on: ii apt [libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.1 0.6.43.2 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii libc6 2.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:4.0.2-5 GCC support library ii libncursesw5 5.5-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.16-2 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.0.2-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 Versions of packages aptitude recommends: ii aptitude-doc-en [aptitude-doc 0.4.1-1 English manual for aptitude, a ter -- no debconf information -- Regards, Sasha.
