Hi, I encountered the same bug, but I just did suid cdrecord (apparently it was already) and cdrdao. K3b does not complain anymore and burning works as user as it should. Using k3b as root "broke" some other things here (changed permissions for ~/.ICE-Authority and some files in /tmp/) which caused problems for the normal non-privileged user (sudo?).
