What version of binutils are you using? I've got 2.16.1cvs20060413-1 and can't reproduce your problem. This looks a lot like bug#343097 which is listed as unreproducable. However, someone reports that they had an old version of libGL lying around, which made the problem go away once it had been removed. Could you check your system for other versions of libGL.so?
