The cause of the segfault was that some .desktop file were corrupted; reinstalled the packages and now all is ok. The program should not segfault in first place ;-) however it would be helful to print to screen the file it is working on (with tve -v flag, maybe) and that causes problems: to find out this, I had to recompile with debug support and then run in gdb...
