soundconverter doesn't have gstreamer0.10-lame in its dependencies (as suggests 
maybe).

Nor does the documentation mention it, so it looks like the default may be that 
MP3 output is deactivated.

However it works fine once gstreamer0.10-lame is installed.

The only hint is that it will display on the command-line :

LAME GStreamer plugin not found, desactivating MP3 output.

Adding a mention in the README.Debian or something may be a first step.

Of course a dependency woul help also, unless there's some problem in Debian 
policy to MP3.
