during the stress testing of our FastCGI application, I have found out that the virtual memory size of the lighttpd process grows up with 100kb every 5 minutes. The lighttpd reports the following message in the error.log: (connections.c.766) missing cleanup in fastcgi I have found the following patch on the lighttpd's tracking system: http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/ticket/910 I have apllied that patch and the memory leaks are gone.
