Hi,
I solved this problem :).
To access your camera using gtkam (and other ptp tools like gphoto2) as
non root, you
should add your user to group 'plugdev'.
I think, that some information about this case printed out during
configuration this package will be usefull.

Same problem here, on two different computers running sid.
Same applications were working with this camera before.
Now, both gtkam and gphoto2 see the camera just fine
if I work as root.
I belong to the 'camera' group, so this is not a problem.
