Hi Frans In testing out upgrade of a fresh sarge installation which included the desktop task ie. both Gnome and KDE, in desperation I found that (after updating sources.list to point to etch and 'apt-get update') the command aptitude upgrade aptitude gives Reading Package Lists... Done B
