can do about supporting dev=/dev/cdrom and the like.
Upstream Subversion revision 1016 contains functionality equivalent to
your patch. I made the target_scsi_id parameter optional, and added
a hardwareId attribute on CdWriter

the best way to deal with your problem is to just install an
original version of cdrtools from:
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/
recent versions include a workaround to include the ATA drives
in the SCSI namespace. This allows cdrecord to again find all
drives via cdrecord
