could you please test the 0.5.9 packages from experimental.
They should better with newer kernels and even if CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS is
set to n.
Yes, it works!

Oh well, most of the time it works now - but sometimes it does not. But
I can't see any pattern...
I'm using initng, maybe some things get loaded it the wrong order, I

Will try a stock Debian kernel.

So I just tried with the standard etch kernel 2.6.18-4-amd64, and the battery
status is reported correctly.
Either there are changes in recent kernels, or some other configuration option
is missing in my config.

I don't think so. I have acpid 1.0.4-5, which has a different init script, and
my modules are loaded:
~$ lsmod|grep bat

Please check the ac module too.
It's loaded.
You are running a self compiled 2.6.21-rc4. Make sure to compile it with
CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED=y
Ah, that was off... Will try. Thanks!

That didn't help. I also enabled CONFIG_PM_SYSFS_DEPRECATED.
If that doesn't help run
hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes and attach the output (gzipped) to this
bug report.
Attached.
