sorry, for not having responded earlier.

Unfortunately, this report still seems to be open, at least here: Using
“gnome-open” on a local kml file starts Epiphany, which then displays
the raw XML data.

I tested that with the file 
http://code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/KML_Samples.kml
(which, by the way, is opened correctly by Google Earth if I click on
the link in Galeon).

Maybe this helps:

$ file -i KML_Samples.kml 
KML_Samples.kml: text/xml

If that’s not supposed to happen, please re-open the bug.
