It was a while ago and I worked around it by using a different server.
It was very easy to duplicate at the time: just use that server, from an etch
install, then do an apt-get dist upgrade.

Actually, http.us.debian.org exists in the Debian DNS but is not
proposed as a mirror during the isntall
