I wondered why WindowMaker, KDE and now Xfce are not able to restart firefox when saving a session with a running firefox in it. Now, with Xfce, I saw this in my ~/.xsession-errors file: env: firefox-bin: No such file or directory It looks like the shell wrapper /usr/bin/firefox that calls the firefox-bin variable breaks the session management, as the firefox-bin binary is not the the search path. I added a "-a /usr/bin/firefox" to the exec command in the exec_verbose function of the shell wrapper. After this, a running firefox is restored by the session management.
