I'd imagine this was done to simplify the man page, since people do not
generally change $HOME without changing their actual home directory.

I'm not sure if this is only a minor error or a normal. The
documentation in the man page tell that the path is relative to $HOME
(section FILES). This is completely wrong. Gimp do not respect $HOME at
