I also encountered this problem after a recent upgrade --- my .profile exec's
another more preferred shell, which causes gdm's Xsession to bail out entirely.
Is there any good reason for gdm's Xsession to source ~/.profile? It is very
contrary to the principle of least surprise: nothing else other
