Package: apt Version: 0.6.46.4-0.1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable, conventional workaround doesn't work
Well, it's everyone's favorite bug with apt-get: Reading package lists... Error! E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room E: Error occurred while processing rt73-modules-2.6.24-1-xen-686 (NewVersion1) E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/debian.oregonstate.edu_debian_dists_testing_contrib_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. Turns out even worse, *no* setting for -o APT::Cache-File=200000000 causes this to go away. There is nothing I can do, aside from modifying sources.list to make this go away. Since you asked, /etc/apt/sources.list: ######################################################################### #$Id: sources.list,v 1.8 2008/01/26 22:23:14 root Exp $ # ######################################################################### # See sources.list(5) for more information, especialy # Remember that you can only use http, ftp or file URIs # CDROMs are managed through the apt-cdrom tool. deb http://debian.oregonstate.edu/debian/ stable main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile stable/volatile main contrib non-free deb http://debian.oregonstate.edu/debian/ testing main contrib non-free #deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free deb-src http://debian.oregonstate.edu/debian/ stable main contrib non-free deb-src http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free deb-src http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main deb-src http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile stable/volatile main contrib non-free deb-src http://debian.oregonstate.edu/debian/ testing main contrib non-free #deb-src http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free Commenting out testing (debian.oregonstate.edu is a mirror I prefer) makes this go away. This should be *fixed*, don't just apply another bandaid. While entirely possible that this was just some momentary issue on one of the mirrors (Tue Apr 8 05:47:21 UTC 2008), the fact that the conventional workaround didn't work is very troubling; not quite as troubling that there *is* a conventional workaround, but no small problem. -- (\___(\___(\______ --=> 8-) EHM <=-- ______/)___/)___/) \BS ( | [EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP 8881EF59 | ) / \_CS\ | _____ -O #include <stddisclaimer.h> O- _____ | / _/ \___\_|_/82 04 A1 3C C7 B1 37 2A*E3 6E 84 DA 97 4C 40 E6\_|_/___/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
