Also, please don't forget that another bit of information we need: the
output of testparm -s smb.conf
(preferrably to a raw smb.conf)
When I run, testparm -s smb.conf, I get this;
myplace:/home/mitch# testparm -s smb.conf
Load smb config files from smb.conf
params.c:OpenConfFile() - Unable to open configuration file smb.conf:
No such file or directory
map_file: Failed to load /usr/share/samba/valid.dat - No such file
