For me, using 256 color video mode in console instead
of 16 bit video mode (vga=775 instead of vga=794) fix
the problem.

Radeon 9600 and radeon 9100 ( two systems..) kernel 2.6.24.4.
If I kill X and put vesa in the module section of xorg.conf (the previous was
radeon) the VT is clear (..i mean bright..).
