I'm also on a freshly-installed etch upgrading to lenny on i686 and running the both commands: update-xmlcatalog --del --type public --id '-//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML V4.1//EN' --package docbook-xml update-xmlcatalog --del --type public --id '-//OASIS//DTD XML Exchange Table Model 19990315//EN'

I experienced the same thing going from a freshly-installed etch to lenny on ppc, so it's not limited to amd64. Running: update-xmlcatalog --del --type public --id '-//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML V4.1//EN' --package docbook-xml update-xmlcatalog --del --type public --id '-//OASIS//DTD XML Exchange

I can confirm that this is not amd64 specific. I am running 32-bit on a pentium-4 2.4GHz. It is also not specific to the Etch install CDs, because I did not use them. I installed with Sarge, upgraded to Etch, then tried to upgrade to Sid. Unfortunetely I suffered a hard drive crash yesterday
