I have a similar behaviour. I have several accounts on several Jabber and IRC servers. Network is always configured by hand. What happens is that Pidgin does not get a correct network connection when it starts, it does not care if network is running or not. I need to go to Accounts/Manage and uncheck and re-check all accounts to get Pidgin sking me passwords for Jabber accounts and connecting to IRC servers. I repeat: this happens even if Pidgin is started after network is running is up and tested. If I uncheck and re-check only one account in Accounts/Manage, only that account gets connected.
