I had also the problem mentioned in the bug 489520.
Changing the file /usr/sbin/collect-reminders as you suggested (print No
reminders in '$homedir'.\n if $verbose;) solved my problem.

1- edit this file:
/usr/sbin/collect-reminders
2- find this line (should be line 118):
print No reminders in '$homedir'.\n;
3- change it
