sorry for the late response, I don't think I have ever received message
#10 by mail. I can confirm that installing busybox resolved the errors
(variable was already set to =y).

Install busybox package and make sure that
BUSYBOX=y in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is set.
After that run update-initramfs -u
I think that splashy should depend on busybox.
