I also have this problem.
I installed squeeze from the Aug 7 2009 daily build with LXDE set as the
default desktop (under advanced options). After starting LXDE for the
first time, I am unable to save any changes to OpenBox using obconf.
The XDG_CONFIG_HOME variable is not set.

I have this problem too and I don't know if this can help.
First time I started lxde all worked properly and inmediatly with ObConf
(graphic interface) but, after my first restart ObConf started to show
me the message: "An error occured while trying to save config file
'/openbox/lxde-rc.x
