by 'purging' update-manager, I assume you mean removing update-manager-gnome I preformed the following: $ sudo apt-get remove update-manager-gnome $ sudo apt-get install update-manager-gnome $ sudo apt-get install update-manager-core however I still recieve a similiar experience to the one
