I don't know if this information will be of any use, but we discovered that
disabling NetworkManager (/etc/init.d/network-manager stop) seems to make this
problem go away, as long as NetworkManager stays off.

I'm getting the same problem. I attach an edited output from running
pidgin -d, then disabling and re-enabling my account, in case this
helps identify the problem.

Since I got Pidgin 2.6 installed (I do daily upgrades from testing), I
have a problem with auto-log-in. I have 2 accounts enabled, an IRC
account (with auto-join) and an LCS/OCS account. Before the upgrade, it
would autologin on both accounts and
