ubuntu has a working openct package at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openct/0.6.19-1ubuntu2
and if you add the patch in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openct/+bug/520378 on top of that ubuntu source package, all bugs concerning openct are fixed (udev, build issues, recommendation, README.debian, Recommends:, Build-Conflicts: for the freeBSD port).
