Since nobody has responded to this message of mine for a month and a half, I thought I'd try unilaterally reassigning it back to the xpdf package (since that's where my analysis says it belongs after all), and tagging it 'patch' since I provided one. Could someone have another look at it, please, and check my reasoning and patch?
