In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:
* /debian/libxr1-dev.install:
Stop shipping .la file per policy 10.2
The la-file shipped in the libxr1-dev package is not needed anymore, no
other package depends on it. See http://release.debian.org/~aba/la/current.txt
