Anyway, I've got a draft change in pbuilder git tree to avoid using
cowbuilder; hopefully this will fix the symptom.
It's an interesting problem that some tests don't pass when cowdancer
is loaded, but we are overriding some system calls in unnatural ways
that it can fail.

IMO that's the limitation of cowdancer that it's not a perfectly safe
way to override applications.
If pbuilder tells you that it's a cowdancer problem, well, I think
that's a problem.
I think it should be possible to avoid cowdancer altogether while
building as non-root user, because there
