I have good news. I have been working over MRTG with the upstream
(Tobias Oetiker) since last week. We already made several changes in
MRTG. The good news is Tobias liked this idea (make ifref default to
name) and he will approve my PR[1] soon (in few

Dear maintainer,
in Ubuntu we apply this patch to make --ifref default to name.
The reason of this change is that the order of the interfaces is
unreliable, and ifref=name may be really a much better default.
Could you kindly apply this patch at
