Hey Clint, Unfortunately there are no symlinks regarding those. Just to note that it wasn't all /var/lib/mysql/mysql-bin.* files that had incorrect permissions, only a few (the latest that it would have generated). Maybe there is some kind of race condition between MySQL stopping and the postinst

I did experience the same issue Alex had this morning. apt-get update failed at starting the MySQL server after updating the package. The last 3 mysql-bin logs had root:root as owner and this prevented the mysql server from starting. I tried resetting the permissions and the run upt-get upgrade
