If you try to set RLIMIT_NOFILE to RLIM_INFINITY (via * hard nofile
unlimited or similar in /etc/security/limits.conf) this fails with
EPERM, and no limit is set.

A slightly more useful setting would be to use /proc/sys/fs/nr_open
instead, as it's the closest to unlimited possible. Otherwise,
documenting this in limits.conf(5) as not supporting -1, unlimited or
infinity would also be helpful.
