tags 701802 patch thanks tagging #701802 with patch, since issues in debian are resolved. Upstream would need to use only the portable iconv API. See patch at: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/debian-med/trunk/packages/dcmtk/branches/experimental/debian/patches/debian_iconv.patch?view=markup

Some update on the issue. Using iconv.h from debian is a little harder than first thought. DCMTK is actually using some non-standard extension from libiconv.h: me/mathieu/debian/debian-med/trunk/packages/dcmtk/branches/experimental/dcmtk-3.6.1~20121102/ofstd/libsrc/ofchrenc.cc: In member function

Thanks for reporting this issue, but it is a known issue that is already listed in the (still internal) DCMTK bug tracker as Feature #368. Regards Jörg PS: I'm one of the main DCMTK developers and also the person who added libiconv support to the DCMTK some time ago. Also see this blog

Bug#701802: Please enable ICONV support

2013-02-27 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Package: dcmtk Severity: wishlist Dear maintainer, The current debian package does not include internationalization support. For this, it needs to be compiled against libiconv. In Debian, we do not ship seperate libiconv/libcharset libraries, because our glibc does already provide this.

2013-02-27 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Reinhard, I have the same feeling like you that I do not really like the static linking against a convenience copy of libiconv. We should rather consider convincing upstream to enable proper dynamic linking. Thanks for your sharing your investigations with us anyway Andreas. On Wed,
