This issue seem to be #1900 reported upstream, fixed in 2012. Do you still
see the problem with the latest version of unknown-horizons? I suspect
this issue should be closed as fixed, but am unsure which

I moved the previous ~/.unknown-horizons away, started unknown-horizons,
clicked on Settings, the window vanished and I got the following
