OK - I was able to decipher the crash report (finally - I hadn't looked at one
of these before). They were launching mgen with the following syntax:
/usr/bin/mgen c ev
I was able to replicate the segmentation fault on my Mac OSX machine, so I was
able to quickly track this down the issue.

it has been reported that mgen crashes when used in a certain way:

I'm having problems finding the time to start any investigation
