We have the same problem with automysqlbackup on wheezy.

If the previous patch is not deemed to be satisfactory, then a mechanism
for inserting additional arbitary arguments to mysqldump would be handy
- e.g. by adding an EXTRA_OPTS section to /etc/default/automysqlbackup.

As an alternative workaround, we've added the following line to the

[client]

section of /etc/mysql/debian.cnf:

events    = true


... unfortunately, this is the only cnf file which mysqldump attempts to
read when it is executed by automysqlbackup - due to the command line
arguments which automysqlbackup currently pass to mysqldump.
