As I just wrote in #700541, I was having trouble encoding DVDs with
0.9.9+dfsg-2~2.gbpa4c3e9. The problem rather resembles this bug,
though: it just crashes after reading the DVD. That's fixed

Are you using dvdnav or libdvdread (check in File/Preferences/Advanced)?
libdvdread used to be problematic in the past and once it was causing
similar crash, see #688574. Unfortunately it looks like it hasn't been
properly fixed which makes me wonder if it hit us again...
