Dear Maintainer,
I tried to make a debian-live image with a serial console. The default inittab
has the serial getty commented out. Simply uncommenting this line (in
includes.chroot) however did not result in a

Your patch breaks the normal use case (non-serial autologin) and is unnecessary
anyway. You should simply customize live-config as explained in the manual to
implement whatever non-standard behaviors you want, if the standard behaviors
don't suit your needs.

patch applied, both normal tty and serial port work (with autologin).
