I had the same problem with an old virtual machine on an Ubuntu 14.04
system (after upgrading).
Here I solved it by changing
emulator/usr/bin/kvm/emulator
to
emulator/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64/emulator
My Machine has the following type:
type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-1.2'hvm/type
