I tried applying the two patches provided, compiled and put in place the
compiled lib and the problem with the login verification error persists.

I've narrowed this down to the optimization for tree-vrp.

Removing the following line from debian/rules let's me build Jessie source
on Jessie that works when installed on Jessie:
CFLAGS += -O2
I should have also mentioned that building from Jessie source on Jessie
produces the same failure everyone else sees in this bug report.

I can also confirm this bug and the error message Login verification
down or unavailable. Downgrading the package restores functionality.
I intend to test which particular patch (or set of patches) in the
source package introduces the error

Upon upgrading from libmeanwhile1 1.0.2-4.1 to 1.0.2-5, attempting to
connect to Sametime is refused with the error: Login verification down
or unavailable.
Everything went back to normal after downgrading the libmeanwhile1 to
version 1.0.2-4 (found in
